UF ABA DC Statement on Richard Spencer Visit to UF

August 14, 2017

The Washington, D.C. chapter of the UF Association of Black Alumni shares the concerns of our members, other alumni, and current students about the possibility of Richard Spencer, a White nationalist, speaking at UF on Sept 12. Richard Spencer and the National Policy Institute are wholeheartedly against UF’s mission to provide equal opportunity, diversity, and inclusion. Allowing Richard Spencer to speak on our campus is firstly a threat to the public safety of our current students, employees, and the surrounding Gainesville community. Secondly, it will shatter the safe, intellectual experiences that we hope students can engage in during their time at UF. More updates will come, as we strategize and prepare a more detailed and collective response in conjunction with alumni and partner organizations.
